We're raising Buckeye Chickens!
Buckeyes are a heritage breed, developed around 1900 by Mrs Nettie Metcalf of Warren, Ohio.
They are listed in "Critical" status by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.
I was fortunate to find these rare birds as as week old hatchlings,
and raised them in my basement for several weeks.
As you can see in the photos, they're still young and haven't reached "adulthood".
I just turned them out because the weather
was getting nice and warm.
Well, Murphy's Law strikes again, and we're having temps in the mid 30's
this week, It's May 22 now and we had a little snow spitting down today!
